John Hope Gateway Topping Out
On 21 May, Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, will preside over the topping out ceremony for the new John Hope Gateway. The conclusion of the building phase of the project will be marked as is traditional in the Scottish construction industry. The final stages – fitting out the interior of the visitor facility – will then begin.

New bike parking at our Gardens
New, improved cycle parking is now available at the Botanics in Edinburgh, as well as at Benmore, Dawyck and Logan. The provision of new cycle rack space means that all cyclists can safely and easily lock their bikes outside our entrance gates. We welcome visitors who arrive in this eco-friendly manner! Garden tours with the (new) experts
Make the most of your visit to the Garden – join our experienced Garden Guides for a tour of seasonal highlights and hidden treasures. Regular tours depart from the East Gate at 11am and 2pm daily until the end of September.
Cost £3; tickets from the Botanics Shop, Palm House Reception Desk or East and North Gates. Duration around one hour. See details for morning and afternoon tours. Group bookings available too.

Southeast Asia at Inverleith House
Exhibition 9 May to 5 July;
talk on 24 May
Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles is best known as the founder of Singapore, but he also amassed a superb collection of Southeast Asian drawings and manuscripts. Acquired by the British Library in 2007, Inverleith House presents a selection of these botanical and zoological drawings in Raffles' Ark Redrawn. The exhibition catalogue is available from our online shop.
The Botanics and Southeast Asia - Art and Nature on 24 May: join RBGE's Dr Henry Noltie for a viewing of the exhibition, followed by a tour of the Glasshouses with botanist Axel Poulsen to look at Southeast Asian plants he has collected.
Cerith Wyn Evans at Inverleith House

Cerith Wyn Evans is recognised internationally for the conceptual clarity of his work which incorporates a wide range of media.
This exhibition, selected by the artist for Inverleith House, is his first solo museum exhibition in Scotland. Presented with White Cube, London.

Lava - A Soil Investigation
Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 May
A live show for ages 6 upwards. Two soil investigators suddenly hear strange, inexplicable sounds while constructing a subterranean car park. Scratchy, creaky noises, murmurs ... Witness the underground mystery unfold as they pursue their investigation. Performed by Studio ORKA and part of the Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival.
