George Forrest: a Scottish Plant Collector in China

Join archivist, Leonie Paterson, for this special lecture on George Forrest. See some of the incredible photographs he took during his travels to China between 1904 and 1932 to collect plants for British gardens, often risking his life to do so.

Modern Day Plant Collectors in China

The Gaoligong Shan is a remote mountainous area on the China/Burma border. Isolation has protected the land from degradation, but also restricted scientific exploration. RBGE is involved in an international project to document this fascinating area. Hear Dr David Long and Dr Mark Watson talk about the work they have undertaken in the area.

RBGE Certificate in Field Botany
Details are now available for the RBGE Certificate in Practical Field Botany. We have four different options for study in 2009:
Option 1: Saturdays, Apr - Oct, at RBGE and field sites in the Lothians.
Option 2: Tuesdays, Apr - Oct, at Dawyck Botanic Garden and field sites in the Lothians and Borders.
Option 3: Residential course in July at Kindrogan Field Studies Centre and field sites in Perthshire.
Option 4: Tropical Field Botany in January at Las Cuevas Research Station in Belize.
